Filament winding for green hydrogen storage
Filament winding for green hydrogen storage
The French specialist in ultra-high-pressure gas storage is developing new manufacturing techniques for its storage cylinders. In particular, RotH2 relies on fi lament winding, which makes it possible to reinforce the steel base of its cylinders with a composite material, resulting in Type II cylinders capable of withstanding pressures of up to 1,000 bar. This article has been published in JEC Composites Magazine N°156.
This innovation marks a new milestone in the development of RotH2, whose industrial know-how has historically been focused on the diving cylinder and accumulator shells. Taken over in 2021 by the Marsac family, the company is now focusing on green hydrogen storage. In just three years, the company’s core business has expanded through the acquisition of new machinery to diversify its production methods and position itself as a key player in the European hydrogen storage, transport and refuelling market. In 2024, RotH2 is poised to meet a new challenge: to become the first French company to obtain Type II cylinder certification for hydrogen storage at 1,000 bar thanks to filament winding.
